An Unforgettable Journey: From Abuja to Accra and Beyond My travel itch began with a trip that was both exhilarating and eye-opening. It all started in Abuja, Nigeria, where I embarked on an adventure with a friend. Our destination? The vibrant capital city of Ghana, Accra. However, this wasn’t a direct journey. We had a detour that would add some unexpected chapters to our story. Lagos Layover and Unexpected Detours Our first stop was the bustling metropolis of Lagos. Here, we rested for the night before continuing our trek eastward. Our initial plan was a straightforward trip through Benin and Togo before reaching Ghana. However, travel sometimes takes unexpected turns. While the specifics aren’t mentioned, we encountered challenges that forced us to adjust our course. Fortunately, during this detour, we were fortunate to meet a kind family who offered us shelter.

Accra: A City of Contrasts Accra became our home for the next two months. This period was a rich learning experience, filled with both beauty and challenges. Accra is a city of contrasts. While I don’t go into detail about the specific sights or experiences, it’s clear that the city left a lasting impression. One particularly vivid memory stands out. You describe a scene of people, men, women, and children, caught in the rain without shelter. Many were small business owners. This glimpse into the lives of those struggling touched you deeply, especially the children. This powerful image highlights the disparities that can exist within a city.

Exploring the Southern Coast of Ghana Despite not visiting every region, you ventured out from Accra to explore the southern coast of Ghana. Places like Sekondi Takoradi, Elmina, Cape Coast, Apam, Tema all became part of your Ghanaian adventure. A Journey That Continues This blog post offers a captivating glimpse into your initial adventures in West Africa. The story ends with a sense that this was just the beginning. There’s a clear desire to explore further, and perhaps share more experiences in future posts.

Jollof Wars Don’t Have a Potential for success: Uncovering Ghana’s Scrumptiously Different Cooking 🇬🇭 Disregard the ceaseless Jollof wars tormenting West Africa, since Ghana has an entire smorgasbord of extraordinary dishes ready to be eaten up. This dynamic country isn’t just about staggering scenes and rich culture (despite the fact that, can we just be look at things objectively, those are really astonishing as well). Ghana’s distinct advantage? Food so great, it’ll have your taste buds doing the Dark Star public dance.

Ghanaian Grub: Something other than Fish Of course, fish is a major player on Ghanaian plates (and for good explanation – the shore is epic!), however there’s an entire ensemble of flavors ready to be investigated.

Think Banku, a springy, matured corn batter that absorbs stews like a pro. Hankering something somewhat tart? Kenkey is your favorite – matured corn mixture enveloped by banana leaves, it’s a magnificent textural and tastebud experience. And afterward there’s Fufu, the undisputed ruler of Ghanaian staples. This pounded plantain and cassava dish is a definitive solace food, asking to be matched with stews, soups, and whatever else flavorful you can envision.

Past the Staples: A Foodie’s Heaven Ghanaian cooking is a blast of variety and flavor. Envision stews overflowing with tomatoes, peppers, and fragrant flavors, all competing for your focus. Kelewele, zesty seared plantains, will make them go after seconds (and thirds). Red, a stew of dark peered toward peas and palm oil, is a good and fulfilling dish. What’s more, we should not fail to remember Waakye, a rice dish cooked with beans and flavors, a morning meal (or any-time) champion.

A Culinary Experience for All. The magnificence of Ghanaian food is its effortlessness and assortment. Whether you’re a veggie lover or an all out carnivore, there’s something for everybody. Vegans will cherish dishes like Okro Stew (made with okra and tomatoes) and Agb ede (pounded eggplant stew). Meat sweethearts, dread not! Ghanaian stews frequently highlight chicken, hamburger, or even goat, all sluggish cooked to delicate flawlessness. Thus, ditch the Jollof wars and dig into the delightful universe of Ghanaian food. Your taste buds will much obliged!
